The Department of Information Systems at the University of Münster is one of the largest and most prestigious Information Systems departments in Germany with an exciting and friendly international research environment that spans several research fields ranging from computer science and mathematics to business and economics. As the headquarters of the European Research Center for Information Systems (ERCIS), the department is connected to over 30 partner institutions in Europe and beyond.

The department offers a broad and solid education in Information Systems, in particular, through integrating a process, data, and innovation based views on digital transformation and by providing a profound education in computer science, mathematics, and business.

Members of the department regularly publish in leading journals in the field, including MISQ, ISR, and Management Science, as well as in premier outlets that intersect with other management disciplines and computer science (e.g., MSOM, ICML). Your Profile

We are looking for an outstanding individual who will engage with our department and its lively ecosystem and work toward making important and impactful contributions to society. In that, we are open to welcoming diverse profiles regarding methodological orientation, field of interest, and seniority level. Applicants are invited to describe how they envision integrating with and advancing the department.

Considering the department’s profile, we are particularly seeking candidates who have made contributions to the design and use of information technology in organisations with a view to innovating and improving operations in various application domains. Thus, we welcome candidates with a focus on one (or more) application domain(s). We also value the ability and interest to connect with the various areas of expertise in the department, including business process management, digital innovation, and data science.

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching activities related to the local Information Systems BSc, MSc, and PhD programs. In particular, the professorship is expected to contribute to the business process management major in our master’s program, and to hold the Operations Management lecture in the bachelor's degree program. Further courses can be offered based on the candidate’s specific research profile. The successful candidate is also expected to be involved in the continuous development of our degree programs and to pioneer and remain a leader in the field of information systems education.

We expect the successful candidate to publish in established information systems outlets and actively contribute to the international information systems community. We also recognise publications in established outlets from related fields, such as computer science, management and organisation science, and operations management. Beyond academic scholarly journals, we value an active dialogue with industry and society, and recognise publications in leading international practice outlets such as those previously mentioned.

Candidates should possess a well-articulated approach to mentoring and supervising PhD students that fosters an environment conducive to academic and research excellence. Responsibilities also encompass handling administrative tasks and contributing to the academic governance of the department, school, and university.

German language proficiency is not a prerequisite. Candidates can deliver all lectures in English, and meetings will be held in English as well. For international colleagues to integrate well locally, the university offers voluntary German language courses.

Candidates must provide substantive evidence that they can publish in top-ranked outlets. Our assessment will primarily consider their level of documented, original academic achievements at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. The ability to attract external funding will also be considered in addition to other managerial and outreach qualifications.
