The GWDG is seeking a

Web Developer (Frontend/Backend) (m/f/d)

to join an interdisciplinary team of HPC experts in the working group “Computing” (AG C) with a regular working week of 39 hours (100%). Remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement for the German public service (federal government); depending on qualifications, the position will be graded from pay grade E 11 to pay grade E 12. The position is suitable for part-time work and initially limited to two years. The GWDG strives for long-term cooperation. If interested, there is the possibility of a doctorate.

The Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG) is the university computing center for the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and a computing and IT competence center for the Max Planck Society. The provision of high-performance HPC systems has been one of its tasks for over 40 years. In 2020, the University of Göttingen / GWDG was accepted as one of eight computing centers in the National High-Performance Computing (NHR) network. The GWDG operates the HLRN-IV system “Emmy”, one of the most powerful computers in the world.

The GWDG is part of one of four national AI service centers. The KISSKI project aims to provide services for critical and sensitive infrastructure. As a national supercomputing center, the GWDG offers technical support to researchers and students from various science domains using sophisticated computer codes, including earth system science, life science, and engineering.

To strengthen our Computing group serving HPC and AI researchers on national level, we are looking for a highly motivated candidate with expertise in web technologies and service provisioning. The successful candidate should also be an enthusiast of actively driving development for innovative computing technologies, e.g., usage of GPUs in improving the performance of scientific application codes.

The GWDG together with the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science and the Campus Institute Data Science (CIDAS) of the University of Göttingen provides a stimulating research environment in Scientific Computing, with an opportunity to conduct research in the intersection of applied computer science, High-Performance Computing, AI, and Machine Learning.

Aufgabenbereiche

Responsibilites

We have a wide range of potential responsibilities that we would like to discuss with you. Your responsibilities in our team could include, for example:

  • Implementation of webpages for our services including databases and application programming interfaces
  • Integration of new features into existing webpages hosted with Hugo or Python
  • Improvement of webpage functionalities, design, and user experience
  • Main point of contact regarding web servers
  • Communication with other teams regarding RfCs, documentation and customer relations
  • Providing support for other teams regarding webpage development and best practices
  • Developing new methods and techniques, for example, for handling input/output data

Anforderungen

Requirements

  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JS
  • Experience with frontend frameworks (i.e. React, Angular)
  • Experience Python backends (i.e. FastAPI)
  • Experience with hosting of webservers (i.e. Apache)
  • Experience with Linux integration
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

Desirable

  • Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Natural Sciences
  • Experience with web development
  • Experience with Django
  • Experience with service-oriented user support
  • Experience with DevOps practices
  • Experience in an HPC application domain, e.g., earth system science, life sciences, CFD
  • Experience in developing or using parallel scientific codes
  • Experience with data management or large-scale data
  • Fluent in written and spoken German
