The Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior at its sites in Konstanz and Radolfzell offers an international, interdisciplinary, and cooperative environment that opens up unique research opportunities. The Genes and Behavior Research Group at the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior would like to fill the following position starting in September 2022. The position is initially for a period of 2 years with the possibility of extension, and the workplace will be in Konstanz.

Our group:
The Genes and Behavior Research Group is headed by Dr. Serena Ding. The group’s research is aimed at understanding the mechanism and evolution of individual and collective behavior in nematodes including C. elegans. We design behavioral assays and imaging techniques to capture behavior, develop tracking and data analysis methods to measure behavior, and employ statistical and modeling approaches to represent behavior. Your tasks:
The primary responsibility of the successful candidate is to work closely with group members to develop and perform experiments and maintain detailed documentation. Additional tasks may include and are not limited to: purchasing and inventory, lab database maintenance, reagent preparation.

Your profile:

  • State accreditation as a technical assistant or a university degree in biological or physical sciences or appropriate professional experience
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Consistency, persistence, self-motivation
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Willingness and ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Additional skills that would be an asset, but are not necessary:

  • Previous work with C. elegans
  • Experience with brightfield and fluorescence microscopy
  • Experience with lab management
  • Knowledge of the German language
