Kompetenzzentrum Wasser Berlin (KWB) is a non-profit company for applied research and innovation founded in 2001 with over 35 employees. We develop research projects by crosslinking future topics like digitalization, resource efficiency, smart city and climate resilience with the traditional fields of the urban water cycle (www.kompetenz-wasser.de). In addition, KWB promotes the active transfer of knowledge to experts, municipal stakeholders, research partners, as well as to the interested public through public relations and the organization of events.
Numerous cities and municipalities around the world are facing major challenges with regard to increasing urbanisation and its fatal interaction with climate change. Blue-green infrastructure measures (BGI) can improve the quality of life of residents and mitigate negative effects, such as flooding or urban heat islands. To ensure long term functionality of BGIs, novel monitoring approaches for maintenance and failure mode detection are being investigated in the EU funded research project City Blues. One of these monitoring approaches are LoRaWAN AI sensors. In the internship you will review theoretical possibilities, followed by a practical phase of testing the sensors. The internship will also serve to define research questions for a master thesis, in which LoRaWAN AI sensors should be employed on BGI in Berlin to validate the quality of collected data for functionality assessment. Your work will be actively supported by the KWB research team.
The aim is to write a Master thesis after the 3-month internship.
